Conflict. This is the best way to describe how I feel about this album. I try my best to judge each album independently of the artist and their previous work but there will always remain some inherent basis. On one hand I love the raw, emotion driven sounds of this album, but on the other it is disjointed and confusing at times. The album leaves me wanting more, like it is beginning to tell a story and can’t find the right ending. It was released the same year as the band broke up, so perhaps there is some underlying truth to feeling of a unfinished story. The midwest has a habit of “flash in the pan” indie rock, and punk bands that seem to release albums that are almost there, and leave you wanting for more before breaking up and disbanding into other projects. The Ghost is a perfect example of this. Given the right mood this album could easily find its way onto repeat in your playlist. Until then pick out the gems, and enjoy them for what they are, little raw jagged beautiful pieces of rock.
